Terms of Service
Last updated: July 10, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Palate — the website at palateweb.com and the Palate mobile application (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What Palate is
Palate helps you decide what to cook: you photograph your fridge or pantry, confirm the ingredients we detect, and receive recipe suggestions ranked to your taste. Palate also includes optional social features for sharing what you cook.
2. Recipes, allergens, and food safety — important
Recipes are largely AI-generated and are suggestions, not professional advice. You are responsible for safe food handling: verify cooking times and temperatures, check doneness of meat, fish, and eggs, and use your own judgment.
Allergen and diet filters are a best-effort convenience, not a guarantee. Ingredient detection and recipe data can be incomplete or wrong. If you have a food allergy, intolerance, or medical dietary requirement, always verify every ingredient yourself before cooking or eating. Palate provides no medical or nutritional advice, and we are not liable for reactions or harm resulting from reliance on the Service’s filters or suggestions.
3. Your account
You must be at least 13 years old to use Palate. You are responsible for your account credentials and for activity under your account. Provide accurate information and keep your email current — it is how we reach you about your account and billing.
4. Palate Plus (paid subscription)
Palate Plus is an optional monthly subscription (currently US$4.99/month) that unlocks additional features such as unlimited fridge scans, additional slate modes, unlimited taste calibration, and the full taste profile. Prices and included features may change; we will give notice of material changes before your next renewal.
Payments are processed by Stripe — we never see or store your card number. Subscriptions renew automatically each month until cancelled. Cancel anytime from the Palate Plus page in the app (or via Stripe’s billing portal); cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep Plus until then.
Except where required by law, payments already made are non-refundable. If you believe you were charged in error, contact support@palateweb.com and we will make it right.
5. Your content
You may post notes, photos, and videos, and share recipes with other users. You keep ownership of what you post. You grant Palate a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute your posted content solely to operate the Service (for example, showing your post in other users’ feeds). Deleting a post, or your account, ends this license except for copies already cached or as required by law.
Fridge and pantry photos you scan are private to your account and are never shown to other users.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- post content that is illegal, harassing, hateful, or sexually explicit;
- post content you do not have the right to share;
- impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation;
- spam, scrape, probe, or overload the Service, or bypass its limits or security;
- reverse engineer the Service except where the law permits it.
We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these Terms, with or without notice.
7. Termination
You can delete your account at any time from the You tab, which removes your account data as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or where required by law. Sections 2, 5 (for the period before deletion), 8, and 9 survive termination.
8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that ingredient detection, recipes, or recommendations are accurate or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Palate’s total liability for any claims arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
9. General
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Palate’s operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. These Terms are the entire agreement between you and Palate regarding the Service.
We may update these Terms as the Service evolves; material changes will be announced in the app or by email, and the “Last updated” date above will change. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
